BNA asked:
My wedding is in March of 2010. I am starting to think about bridesmaid gifts. I was wondering what is the best present yo have received as a bridesmaid. I really don’t want to do costume jewelry or body lotion, or a trinket that they will throw away. Any ideas?

My SIL gave us each a purse full of the typical stuff.
I loved it because we still got the typical pamper yourself gifts (lotions, manicure sets, etc), but the purse lasted forever! It was an awesome bag that I carried forever. Just got rid of it… over 4 years after the wedding.

Congratulations!!!
Well I haven’t been in a wedding yet.. my friends are still in dating or engagement stage of their relationships..
But mine probably won’t be until November 2012.. and I was thinking the same thing.. but nothing really seemed to pop out at me. I understand that typically the Bridesmaids purchase their dress for the wedding.. but honestly just have a hard time asking my Bridesmaids to shell out $200 for a dress they may only wear once. At least it looks like that’s what mine are going to cost. Lol. They’re in a “Cafe” color.. so they’ll probably wear them again.. but my plan is to buy the dresses for them. And then the day before the wedding having a “Spa Day” with my BM’s… us all getting massages, manicures, pedicures, *******.. stuff like that. I was originally going to do it the day of.. but then I heard that it’s better to do it the day before because your hands will smell like nail salon stuff. So I thought that’d be nice.. since very few people seem to do things for themselves cuz they’re so busy with work or kids or whatever.. and even fewer have had an actual spa day consisting of all major treatments. And I like that it’ll be with all my girl friends for us to remember and take random photos. I think it’s better than like just a little gift they may throw away a few years from now and will build more amazing wedding memories. But that’s just me.

I gave my bridesmaids engraved jewelry boxes. They were just little jewelry boxes and each had a little plaque with something nice engraved especially for that person. I only had two that I needed to give out – my best friend and my sister were my only “attendants” at my wedding because my wedding was so far away from home. It cost me about $60 each or so, I can’t remember but it wasn’t too expensive.

The best gift that I have gotten thus far has been a coach wristlet and small coach wallet. It was perfect. Our bridesmaid dresses were black and the wristlets were a dark grey leather. It really made the outfit come together but I’ve also used it about a dozen times since then.
I’m getting married next October and we are designing custom sneakers though Nike. You can choose from thousands of sneaker designs then you pick the colors and even put your wedding parties initials on them.
Our colors are navy blue, white and chartreuse. The sneakers are mostly white with navy blue details. We put their initials on the shoes too. The guys are going to wear them for the entire reception. The girls can wear them for the ceremony if they want but will probably just for the reception. We wanted to make sure the shoes matched our wedding but something that they can wear again.
We ordered ourselves a pair too. Ours have slightly more detail and both of our initials on each pair instead of just our own. I have this vision of getting that perfect photo of everyone in a line, modeling the shoes.
Anyways, they were pretty expensive but well worth it to us. If you can afford $130ish per person, definitely check these out.

A $50 bill to cover the cost of my shoes along with personal handwritten thank you letter. I still have the letter and value it much more than bracelets I never wear.

I’ve been a bridesmaid once and the bride took us all out to get manicures and pedicures. I loved that gift:)

I like the spa day idea.. I may use that!
Also I am getting a hotel suite that me and my bridesmaids will stay in the night before the wedding then the night of the wedding me and my husband will go there.
